Two years ago, on this fateful morn, my biggest
emotion was confusion. I was confined to work without access to a television or
radio. The Internet news sites were overwhelmed with news seekers, and non-responsive.
So I relied on blogs to find out what was happening
in the skies and on the ground in Manhattan and Arlington. Sites like
Metafilter were my contact with the outside
... until Jann called.
She gave me a running commentary of what she was
seeing on TV. She was my eyes and ears into what has now become known as 9/11.
It's been so long since I updated, I was wondering if
I'd even remember how. I haven't even looked at my tracker stats in weeks ... does
anyone still visit?
Seems like the season has changed since I was last
here. I played golf after work today and was actually a bit cool in shorts. 'Course
Jann says I would probably
be cold even in Phoenix. Wussy boy ... I think that's the term she uses. ;)
I used to hear it from
Dave too, but he doesn't count
'cause he wears shorts when there's snow on the ground.
It sure was delightful though. The air was cool, the
humidity was moderate, a nice breeze was blowing, and I was striking the ball pretty
well. A very nice way to spend a couple hours unwinding from the job.
The job ... things are changing there too. I started
training this week to be system and network administrator for the company ISP, email,
database, and web servers. That means Linux, Apache, SQL, iMail, Cold Fusion, Radius
Link ... all the typical software infrastructure found at an Internet services
company.
I am interested in the challenge. There's a lot to
learn, but potential for a nice return in professional development. The folks who
run this small business are certainly giving me every opportunity to learn. Repairing
PCs, OS upgrades, virus eradication, and the like have taught me a lot in the past
ten weeks. Now it's time to change.
