     An observation in automobile demographics.

While walking about my new neighborhood in recent weeks, I've noticed there seems to be considerably more of one make of vehicle than the others.

I became curious. When you have a lot of time on your hands, that happens.

I wondered if this particular brand was more popular because of the demographic of the residents. The majority of people here are seniors. It makes sense ... Hendersonville is a popular retirement community. Are these old fogie cars?

So instead of just wondering, I thought I would count. Are there really a lot more of one?

Buick — 36
Toyota — 26
Ford — 15
Chrysler — 14
Oldsmobile — 13
Cadillac — 12
Chevrolet — 10
Mercury — 9

Subaru — 8
Dodge — 7
Honda — 7
Acura — 7
Lincoln — 6
Saturn — 5
Nissan — 5
Jeep — 5

Mazda — 4
Pontiac — 2
Mitsubishi — 2
Mercedes — 2
Volkswagon — 1
Infiniti — 1
Plymouth — 1

The count confirmed my suspicion. There are a lot of Buicks in this neighborhood. I was surprised at the number of Toyotas ... hadn't really noticed that many before.

And what, you may ask, do I drive?

OmiGod!!! I'm an old fogie too.

On a more serious note ... let's keep those heroic southwestern firefighters in our hearts and prayers ... and Mother Nature too. They need rain badly.

     Can't blame it on me.

I don't even live there anymore.

But then I'm one of those taxpayers they were talking about.

     ::::::::

The local Schlotzky's around here has a great deal on Monday evening. You can get one of their 8" pizzas with anything on it for $1.99. Can't beat that with a pepperoni roll.

This past weekend, during the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the USGA was promoting a program designed to attract more children, especially economically disadvantaged children, to the game.

     From the web site:

"One of the primary goals of The First Tee is to teach kids the joy of golf and its lessons in integrity and other positive behavior skills. By learning the basic athletic and social skills associated with golf, young people who otherwise may not be able to afford or be exposed to the lessons it can teach, now have the opportunity to reap benefits that will prove useful throughout their lives."

     Cool.
